Putney Choral Society is an enthusiastic and committed group, performing much
of the classic choral repertoire but with a wide selection of
contemporary and more unusual material thrown in. We are twinned with a
society in Dunkerque and normally manage a trip to France each year.
For our home concerts we join forces with the City Philharmonic Choral
Society. We perform two major concerts each year; in May and in
December at venues in Wandsworth and Waterloo. In addition we present
an informal summer concert in June.
We currently have
approximately 60 active members but are always looking for new singers
in all parts. Choir members have a range of music-reading ability and
are not asked to take an audition.
Our conductor is the
indefatigable Stephen Rhys who provides our musical direction and also
ensures that we never lose our sense of enjoyment.
We were exceptionally pleased that Stephen Rhys received an MBE in the Summer
2004 Queen’s Honours list as well deserved recognition for his
considerable contribution to SW London music making.
We are now half way through the spring term, rehearsing Mozart’s Requiem in preparation for our concert on Saturday May 17th 2008 (7.30pm) at St Paul's Church, Augustus Road, Southfields, SW19 6ED.
